Girls in Airports come full circle, and start over. The danish indie jazz band announce "Circular", their eleventh release, out February 2027, followed by an international tour of more than thirty dates.

Short bio

Girls in Airports is a Copenhagen-based indie jazz band whose sound has been evolving for fifteen years and still has not settled. They started as students at RMC who wanted to know what happens when you remove the rules and just follow the music. No fixed genre, no conventional instrumentation, vintage keys, saxophone, and a wide spectrum of global percussion, shaped by a long-term collective curiosity that has taken them across Europe and Asia, from festival stages to intimate rooms where something unexpected always happens. Their music moves fluidly between traditions and keeps reaching past them. Between jazz and ambient, between folk and something with no name yet. It is music built for people who listen closely and want to be taken somewhere they have not been before. Over ten albums and more than a decade of touring, they have collaborated with Teitur, Halvcirkel and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, played Roskilde Festival, and landed sync placements in films across Europe. Their live concerts are immersive, unrepeatable, and built for audiences who come looking for something they have not heard before.

Full bio

"Circular" was recorded the way Girls in Airports began: in a circle, facing each other, listening. The title is about returning to the core of the band. It's not about picking up where they left off. It's a fresh start and a chance to become whatever they are now.

The band met at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen nearly twenty years ago. Since then they've been through most of what can happen to a band: members leaving and joining, families, people moving away, years where it wasn't obvious it would continue. It did. Today they stand together stronger than ever, and some of the music on "Circular" is deliberately left as a sketch, because that's where the band is most alive. "Circular" is about what it takes to keep going, to stay together, and to still make something that means something.

Musically, "Circular" is their rawest and most honest release to date. The band makes no effort to sound like they know what shape a piece should take. What you hear is four people exploring and finding their way. On tour, after night upon night of the same songs, they always end up in this discovery mode, and that's where the magic is. It sounds honest and human, and it says something about living alongside other people. It's also where they reach highest, without quite knowing why.

The new pieces rely less on composition and more on mood and time, with more room for each musician to speak. The songs aren't heading anywhere. They're simply there.

After years of large collaborations with Teitur, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and string trio Halvcirkel, "Circular" is the band on their own. It was recorded partly live on tour in Germany and partly in a converted barn in the Danish countryside. Their lineup, with no bass and no guitar, has given them their own sound from the start, and over 640,000 people have found their music on streaming.

"Circular" is out February 2027, followed by more than thirty tour dates across Germany, Switzerland, France, Denmark and beyond.

Press

“The album starts off dreamlike, almost like Sigur Ros, subtle with discrete rhythm and strings that sound completely electronic. You can clearly feel the tensions that tremble throughout the album.”

“Girls in Airports is undoubtedly one of the most important bands in recent Danish jazz. They have had their own sound and atmosphere right from the start, which has slowly and gradually moved to new places.”

“Girls In Airports has for a number of years been one of the most exciting Danish bands at that end of jazz music where you can sometimes wonder if it's even jazz... or something else good.”

“It remains entirely unclear how to describe their wonderfully soothing sound. Is it indie pop with jazz elements, ambient music with rock passages, or something else entirely?”
